"Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve." 1 Peter 5:2
Three summers ago when I was being treated for cancer, God’s people, many of whom I did not know personally, brought food, cards, love, and hope to my household. Our family delighted in the deliveries, tangible proof of God’s promises in our time of trial.
Loving one another is at the core of who we are called to be as Christians. The WeCare Ministry is being launched initially as a meal ministry for persons in the midst of illness or similar time of need.
Many of God’s people are blessed with the gift of hospitality. You know the type – those people who can take a Happy Meal and turn it into a visual delight that transforms even the sense of taste. Then there are the rest of us. The ones who know where to find the yummy pre-packaged, pre-cooked meals that can be conveniently picked up and delivered to the table in 30 minutes. WeCare Ministry is for those gifted in the art of cooking and presentation AND the rest of us –all that’s required is a heart full of God’s love and the desire to make a difference.
Paul talks about the church family “For you have been called to live in freedom – not freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one another in love.” Galatians 5:13. The Church, the Body of Christ, has been created and called for such ministry.
